Located in Geneva, Cargo is a recently completed project by group8 studio. Although there has been a notable increase in the use of shipping containers as a form of housing, I don’t think I’ve seen them being used as separate rooms within an already established building. The formulation of this project must have seemed quixotic at first, but after viewing the final product, the containers bring a rather idiosyncratic urban grunge that juxtaposes unexpectedly well with the otherwise bland, black and white interior.
I love when designers contrast elements beyond colors. Black to white and clean to dirty, Cargo transforms the layout from ordinary to extraordinary. My favorite has to be the combined containers that have the panoramic view of the entire office. In collaboration with furniture manufacturer Dynamobel, the interior is still able to retain a sentiment of office structure and ambiance.
