House with Dormer Window is a minimal home with eaves located in Gifu, Japan, designed by Hiroki Tominaga Atelier. As the name suggests, a large dormer window extends from the gabled roof, overlooking the street. The architects wanted to extend the eaves of the home in order to maintain its traditional aesthetic within the neighborhood. The eaves are a characteristic element in traditional Japanese homes, while the dormer window provides a contrasting component to the overall facade. Translucent flooring was utilized above the Japanese-style room in order to filter natural light and heat, while also maintaining insulation within the space.
