Clopen is a minimalist design created by Japan-based designers Torafu Architects. What looks like a floating shelf, the design actually hides a secret compartment locked in place by magnets. The 23mm deep shelf is opened by using the butt end of the magnet in the key.

The shelf is composed of veneer and aluminum, and is strong enough to hold a good amount of weight on its top surface. The shelf is secured into an aluminum base which is fixed to the wall using screws. My favorite aspect of this design is that you have to use a special magnet to open up the inside drawer. I don’t have anything to hide, but I love the idea of having secret compartments.
