Heavy Rabbit Seat by Bongo Design

Posted on August 2nd, 2012 by

Name: Heavy Rabbit Seat

Designer: Magdalena Chojnacka

Location: Cracow, Poland

Do you see the rabbit? May be hard to visualize since the untrained eye may just see a bunch of plastic hangers glued together. Looking more closely, you will find a row of hand bent steel rods (31 to be exact) carefully welded next to each other to make this beautiful chair.

Weighing in at a hefty 40 pounds, this minimalist chair can easily hold more than a few hundred pounds; Heavy Rabbit indeed. The rabbit shape also lets the customer put books, flowers, nick-knacks, and the like, decorating the seat as well as serving a storage purpose. Each seat is hand built and then powder coated to a custom range of color choices.

Although I do not fancy the light green powder coat on this particular model, I do fancy the design and the unique materials used. Generally, mass production leads to cheaper and lighter materials, but since this is custom made, the design will keep its value by lasting many years. I could see this as a perfect addition to an outdoor balcony or patio.
