Knot is a minimalist design created by France-based designer Désormeaux/Carrette studio. As its name suggests the Knot chair ties mechanically: the steel tubes that compose it are neither welded or screwed into place. It is designed as a free-standing two-part structure: the weight of the person sitting on the seat interlocks the parts. Rigidity and stability are secured by four elastomer stops that hold the tubes under the seat in place. Knot uses innovative industrial fabrication techniques for bending, in particular a CNC machine that shapes synchronous bi-directional curves.
