Mags is an inconspicuously minimal sofa designed by Hay Studio. If you were to draw the orthographic front of this sofa, it would take fewer than 10 strokes to complete. Whenever a design is as reductionist as this, it allows the smaller details to surface. The slightest curves, stitches, and edges become amplified in all their beauty.
When I first saw Mags in the latest issue of Dwell, I couldn’t help but linger on the page to stare at how unpretentious and not gaudy the sofa was. The fact that it was trying so hard to remain in the backdrop only compelled me to stare at it longer. There is a natural appeal to this sofa that unexpectedly contradicts the saturated market of overly eccentric designs. I welcome this honest and humble approach to design.
