Modul is a minimalist sofa created by Copenhagen-based designer Chris L. Halstrøm. The designer Chris L. Halstrøm has created a flexible piece of furniture for the AP Serien with many applications. It is a daybed, a sofa, an extra bed, a chair and a lounge module in one and the same furniture. Module consists of two elements – a chair and a sofa that can be put together and used for many purposes and in many contexts – in private homes as well as in public spaces. Module consists in all its simplicity of a wooden frame, a fully upholstered seat and one, respectively, two bolsters. The bolster has a slit that makes it possible to grip a transverse backbar – a way of design that contributes to the furniture’s great flexibility. When the cushion is removed, the full depth of the seat can be utilized and Module can now act as a guest bed or a classic daybed.

The oblong, circular back cushion gives the furniture character, but also means that Modul is suitable as a freestanding piece of furniture in the room. When the furniture is pulled out from the wall it becomes accessible from both sides and the round shape of the back now invites for a short rest. The removable bolster generally contributes to the sofa’s flexibility. If you lift it off, it can be used as support under the neck or under the legs. Module comes with two types of upholstery – one with a fully upholstered seat in hairlock, covered in Re-wool fabric or leather. The other version has loose seat cushions, covered in Re-wool fabric and the upholstery material used is eelgrass. “The result is a very firm and rigorous cushion, which forms a perfect base if you want to sleep on Modul, and which incites for movement,” says Chris Liljenberg Halstrøm, who refers to the depth of the cushions providing freedom of movement and the ability to pull up the legs.
