Name: Pi & Up
Designer: Marc Th. van der Voorn
Location: Utrecht, Holland
Pi & Up are minimalist side tables designed by Holland-based designer Marc Th. van der Voorn for Odesi. Marc is a graduate of Minerva Art Academy, and immediately became an independent designer upon graduation – founding AAN-UIT Lighting Design in 2001. Most other sidetables have a 40 x 40 cm tray, the Up adds an extra 20 cm (40 x 60 cm).
The slightly larger tabletop of the Up gives you just that little extra space you need. Besides being a charming sidetable, Pi is also a magazine holder. You can stack your magazines on the legs and newspapers can be rolled up and stored through the legs. Both Pi & Up are available in matte black and with a white or red tabletop.
I always get excited when I receive incredible submissions such as Pi & Up. Both of these minimalist designs are incredible – Up with its contrasting colors, and Pi with its functionality as a magazine holder. I really like Up’s wing-like legs, and subtle details such as the visible screw heads and space between the two legs. Pi looks just as good, and would be a lot more practical for daily use. However, I’m going to go with Up on this one, which one would you guys pick?
