Segesta by Alfredo Häberli

Alfredo Häberli, the genius behind the Segesta chair for Alias, is an internationally known Argentinian born designer. When it comes to product design, furniture is my favorite category; and within furniture, this chair is definitely one of my favorite seating designs…ever. As much as I love the classic Eames’ Lounge Chair and Panton’s S Chair, they are becoming way too prevalent and overused.

The Segesta chair, which slightly resembles the taillight of Aston Martin’s one-77, is made of an advanced plastic called Hirek©. This material allows the chair’s form to be flexible, stable, and even stackable. There are numerous variations of the chair that you can checkout in the image gallery.

Any design will have an emotional impact on its user, whether the person is conscious of it or not. For me, looking at the Segesta chair surfaces an intense sense of nostalgia and pride within me. I wish I had the money to buy this chair so that I can tell you how it actually affects me emotionally, but knowing this design exists already makes me pretty happy.
