Slice System is a minimalist furniture collection created by Shanghai-based practice MMR STUDIO. The system reimagines the conventional urban form, employing methods of stretching, rotating, and slicing to transform a circular tube into new structural elements. This innovative approach creates versatile spatial symbols, including side tables, containers, trays, and seating, tailored for contemporary urban settings. The process not only alters the shape but also returns the tube to a basic, segmented form, engaging with the concept of redefining urban space.

Renowned for their methodical photographic studies of industrial structures, the Bechers captured the stark beauty of functional buildings such as mines, blast furnaces, and silos. Their work devoid of human presence or natural elements, emphasized the architectural significance and sculptural quality of these industrial remnants. These forms, documented by the Bechers, serve not merely as relics of the industrial age but as influential shapes in modern urban planning. These structures, characterized by their near-perfect geometries, have informed and shaped the spaces of contemporary cities much like the historical development described metaphorically as “cities on horse-drawn carriages/cars.”
