AtaW is a minimalist shop interior located in Fukui, Japan, designed by Kimura Matsumoto architects. The renovation includes the renewal of the cafe and shop area which features the 14 year old lacquerware company. The architects chose semi-transparent surfaces in order to bring lightness to the product, as well as provide a faint reflection. A series of metal pipes are arrayed across the ceiling, and used to hang pendant lighting. Above the pipes are a succession of semi-transparent floating mesh tarps that complement the surface material.
