Name: appartment-Makrygianni
Designer: Hiboux
Location: Athens, Greece
Apartment in Makrygianni is a minimalist apartment located in Athens, Greece, designed by Hiboux. The owners wanted a visually clear and calm interior whilst being open and functional. As a result, no dividing walls split the open space – large glass panes were used for separation as well as high-gloss white lacquered “islands.” The blocks close off the main bedroom, shower, wardrobe, and guest room. As stated by the architects,
“Matte white-lacquered surfaces that lie parallel to the long sides of the space define two zones that house storage solutions, bathrooms, an office-cum-bar, a projection screen and library, a guest fold-down wall bed, and the kitchen.”
I feel like nothing exemplifies minimalist living better than storage systems built directly into the home. Hiboux took a step further by constructing an office-cum-bar and Murphy bed on each wall respectively. Another great aspect about this design is the fact that the views are never fully obscured by walls. Islands are used to separate space, but they are always parallel to the walls.
