Name: Armadillo House
Designer: Formwerkz Architects
Location: Singapore
Armadillo House is a minimalist home located in Singapore, designed by Formwerkz Architects. The residence is a two and half story corner terrace house flanked on its western face with a traffic crossing and a highway viaduct. Due to its close proximity to these traffic sources, noise pollution and privacy was an issue from the start of the project.
As such, the clients wanted to mediate the site’s unfortunate site condition, and to have a flexible, sustainable design for a growing family. The name of the home spawns from its upper shells that form a shielding surface from direct light. Mechanical fans from the upper levels pull the cooler air from the ground floor upward. I love how the outer shell makes the home look like a fortress of sorts.
