House in Amagi by Atelier Cube

House in Amagi is a minimalist home located in Fukuoka, Japan, designed by Atelier Cube. Since the residence is surrounded by cherry trees, the clients wanted the interior atmosphere to encourage enjoyment of these gardens from each space within the home. The grid-like interior is strategically arranged with internal partitions that also have window cut-outs to allow for unobstructed views of the opposing side of the structure.

Other considerations for the interior included an emulation of the kind of freedom and openness seen in an outdoor yard. Since the floor plan is so open, the hallway leading to the separate rooms almost appears to look like a shopping mall concourse. From the outside, House in Amagi could look like any other Japanese home, but once inside, the spacial experience is truly unique and one of a kind.
