Name: House in Ovar
Designer: Paula Santos
Location: Portugal
House in Ovar is a minimalist home located in Portugal by Paula Santos. The residence, which sits a top a large 680 sqm site, features an indoor swimming pool and a painter’s studio. The main rooms are located on the ground floor with only an ensuite located on the upper level. There are pitched rooftops to provide high ceilings for certain spaces within the house.
Aside from the use of concrete, I really like the home’s sloping rooftops. I also find it interesting how the architects decided on the corridor layout. The building basically looks like a twig in that you have the “reed” which simulates the corridor, and the tiny branches which reflect the larger volumes. Each volume has its own dedicated function, and is segregated from the other volumes.
