Name: House in Yamasaki
Designer: Yo Shimada
Location: Hyogo, Japan
House in Yamasaki is a minimalist house located in Hyogo, Japan, designed by Yo Shimada. The location in which this dwelling resides is filled with cloudy days. As a result, the architects decided to create a light-filled climate within the 1000 sqf home. The base of the home is actually 2.5 ft below the foundation in order to thermally buffer the ground.
The bedrooms, kitchen, living, and dining rooms are situated on this ground floor while the upper levels contain the perched white boxes. Two of the boxes are covered by a translucent film that emulated greenhouse designs. The polycarbonate films capture natural lighting that is then filtered into the rest of the space.
