Loft in Toritsudai by Akio Yachida

I’ve become more and more obsessed with the simplicity of Japanese design and lifestyle. I’m starting to see many architects and designers incorporate concrete as a technique to imbue modernist spacial qualities. Tadao Ando is obviously well known for this, but there are others out there who deserve some attention as well.

I recently stumbled upon an architect by the name of Akio Yachida. Similar to Tadao, Akio utilizes natural light to project the various elements and materials used throughout the loft. His Toritsudai design exemplifies the minimalism of concrete.

Are there any concrete residences in the United States? As far as I can remember, I’ve rarely even seen the wall that is a color other than white.
