Shakin Stevens House is a minimalist house located in Melbourne, Australia, designed by Matt Gibson Architecture + Design. The interior space of this home is about harmony and continuity, thus the lack of doors past the front entrance. The are three cubed volumes that distinguish the home’s aesthetic as well as clear programmatic zones all house different functions.

The client wanted a predominantly white interior with a green accent. Working in proximity to the nearby garden, the green amplified the home’s natural surroundings without becoming overbearing. The building is also very sustainable, lending to ESD principles which include retention of existing structure, orientation and configuration of new works, sun protection (eaves), exposed thermal mass, passive temperature regulation, low embodied energy construction techniques & materials, structural depth within walls for mass bulk insulation with R values, insulation of entire  existing dwelling (floor, walls, ceiling), use of recycled timber flooring/decking.
