Name: Stepped Terrace House
Designer: HUG
Location: Fukui, Japan
Stepped Terrace House is a minimalist house located in Fukui, Japan, designed by HUG. A set of long terrace steps connects the ground level to the upper level bedrooms. The design’s purpose was to conceal street-level views without disrupting the flow of interior and exterior spaces.
The first thing that came to my head when I saw the minimal exterior was to project a screen across from the terrace steps onto the building for movie screenings. It’s the perfect viewing angle, and at least twenty people can be seated on those steps. I never thought I’d say this, but I like how one of the ways to reach the upper bedroom from the ground level is to take the stairs outside.
