Villa SK by Atelier Thomas Pucher

Name: Villa Sk

Designer: Atelier Thomas Pucher

Location: Graz, Austria

Renovations are almost always a costly matter, but Thomas Pucher stayed within budget by creating an extension of an existing family home without the need for a total redevelopment. They used an extension from the living room into the garden which kept the main structure of the house intact and allowed the inhabitants the option of going into the “new wing” without much disturbance.

The living room extension is now surrounded by the outside garden via the full height glass panels, brick, and custom colored red concrete; so as the seasons change, the colors will filter in nicely through the living space. To keep the privacy, the very main structure of the house was kept in reserve for construction of the bedrooms and the bathrooms. There was also no disturbance to the surrounding foliage, as the Walnut tree and the existing courtyard were unharmed by a modified hole / space in the roof. This effect makes the rooftop terrace seem lower than it actually is, as the branches of the walnut tree stick out to decorate it’s space.

The Villa Sk succeeds ias a space that would be wonderful to hosts guests and/or large parties without sacrificing sensibility. The space seems just as enjoyable empty, as it would be filled with family and friends.
