Whale Model, designed by Masaya Kawai, is a house that is all about contrast. The contrast is pretty apparent in the exterior facade, but once you delve into the rest of the house, you’ll start to notice it everywhere.
For example, the bottom floor of the house is brightly lit due to the floor-to-ceiling windows. However, the upper floors use thin windows to limit natural light. The material choice throughout the Whale Model is also prevalent. The basement is filled with dark concrete slabs, the lower level contrasts with white walls and light woods, and the upper floor bedroom uses dark carpets and woods.
Although the house seems as if its being split up into different themes, there is still a congruency in both lighting and form. This house would be great for those of you who have multiple personality disorder.
