Spitalfields Town House is a minimalist residence located in London, United Kingdom, designed by Quinn Architects. This building is located within an important row of terraces in the Spitalfields area of London. Only the facade was retained from the existing building, making way for a contemporary interpretation of the historic setting. Bringing light to all areas of the house was crucial to the development, with two light wells created through the building to allow light deep in to the long and narrow floor plate. Following the major renovation, we were asked to design an extension to accommodate the kitchen and dining areas.

The new extension takes advantage of the maximized light and becomes an integrated social space within the rest of the home. Each element of the project was intensively detailed from the bespoke furniture right down to the cabinet interiors to create a highly personalized space for the clients. To balance the building’s industrial character, a simple palette of materials was selected to make the space feel homely and elegant. The materials are also consistent with the design approach; required to be responsive and articulate to function in varied activities.
