Audiogram by Yamaha

Posted on June 17th, 2010 by

I was just surfing around the Good Design Award website, and I came across this minimalistic, Dieter Rams-esque synth made by Yamaha. It reminded me of the L450 + TG60 + TS45 Rams designed in the 60s for Braun. I’m wary when it comes to any comparisons to Rams simply because his designs were, and still are, so monumental in the design world. This product adheres to his 10 commandments, especially in terms of its detail and aesthetic. Knowing nothing about audio equipment or synthesizers, this product clearly communicates inputs and outputs using clean typography and blatant functionality. The dials are rounded to indicate turning, and the buttons are extruded with a slightly contrasting color. It doesn’t get any more obvious than that.
