Nest is a minimalist piggy bank created by New York-based designer Lance McGregor for OTHR. This playful piece riffs on the iconic shape of the piggy bank, as seen through a minimalist lens. Distilled down to a single orb, Nest rest on a steel base that doubles as a hammer to shatter its porcelain exterior. “I love the idea of ‘breaking the piggy bank’ to see what rewards lie within,” says McGregor. “As a kid, it was always exciting to see how much I’d been able to save.” Nest neatly embodies the paradox of “no reward without sacrifice;” once filled, the object must be forgone to reap the benefits inside. As an added, unexpected whimsy, a 3D printed nylon pig lives within Nest’s sphere—an homage to the object’s forbearers.
