Organized Chaos is a collection of, minimal ceramic clutter containers, by Brighton-based designer Ellie Rains. Misplaced belongings in overly cluttered environments create mental fatigue, in a time when technology already requires most of our attention. These aesthetically harmonized vessels look to disguise the chaos of scattered belongings, by creating a secluded space for nomadic objects. Through the predominant use of rich natural materials and calming pastel tones, simple clutter containers are created to help soften and brighten stressful lives. The ceramic lids are slip-cast from a plaster mould in yellow and blue stained semi-porcelain, or rich earthy terracotta. Smooth sanded, unglazed exteriors contrast pops of interior bright glaze. The wooden dish bases are either sycamore or cork with a lip to hold the ceramic covers in place. Versatile silicone spheres sit on top of the ceramics acting as stoppers but also stress balls, playful bouncy balls, or simply pin holders while polished resin spheres containing suspended desk ephemera like pencil sharpenings, celebrate the beauty of desk clutter while acting as affordances of what may lie beneath. Playful and pastel, this collection looks to bring calmness and serenity into the everyday life.
