Name: The Porthole
Designer: Martin Kastner
Location: Chicago, Illinois
The Porthole is a minimalist design created by Chicago-based designer Martin Kastner. It is currently going through Kickstarter funding with a staggering investment of over $389,000 as of today. The conception of the design was originated from a simple conversation between the designer and bar chefs prepare for a new restaurant opening called the Aviary.
“We were discussing “fast infusions” — cocktails evolving during the course of the time it takes to serve them — and it occurred to me that what we’re really looking for is a window into another world, space, and time.”
In addition to its function as a pouring container, The Porthole beautifully displays the ingredients of any recipe within its ultra-modern and sleek enclosure. The ingredients can be as simple as a few strips of lemons, or as complex as a time-lapse infused seasonal cocktail. I love to include designs that are “before its time” in my interior works. This product is something a set designer would definitely use in a futuristic sci-fi movie. What do you guys think?
