The Other Half of the Apple is a minimal grater created by Denmark-based designer Guglielmo Brambilla and Elena Biondi. The Other Half of the Apple is a kit to peel fruit like apples, dry the skin, smash it and then use it for tea and infusions or even soaps and perfumes. The kit consists of a stainless steel grid with a central blade sharpened by hand, a CNC-cut mortar and a pestle, both in solid beech wood, ideal for alimentary use. Without the blade, it can also be used to grind dried spices and to make sauces. This object has been designed for a competition, whose topic was the apple. The designers started from the idea of re-evaluating a part of the fruit which is normally discarded: the peel. Besides, the apple’s peel is the part that contains more fibers, vitamins, antioxidants and other healthy substances.
