Boyuefu Residence is a minimal house located in Hohhot City, Mongolia, designed by NA-DECO. Spanning nearly eight meters in width, the living room unfolds along an east-west axis, delineating distinct yet harmonious sections for tea consumption and calligraphy, alongside a comfortable sitting area designated for relaxed conversations and guest reception. At its heart, a contemporary stainless-steel bookshelf stands, echoing the shapes of Mongolian bows and arrows, injecting a burst of youthful verve into the residence. The flooring subtly nods to the elegance of the Han-Tang period with its dark brown tiles exhibiting a subtle wood-like texture.

This design choice lays a foundation that is both subdued and rustic, fostering a timeless ambiance within the living space. Structurally, the residence is anchored by a ‘T’-shaped formation created by centrally positioned wood-wainscoting walls, establishing clear demarcations between the living room, guest room, and the master bedroom. This configuration, serving both storage and aesthetic functions, orchestrates a harmonized spatial rhythm and visuals, enhancing the fluidity and connectivity within the home. The dining kitchen, positioned at the north facet of the ‘T’ structure, features an expansive island that mirrors the axial alignment of the tea table, fostering a tantalizing closeness to the living area.

To pay homage to the rich history of celadon pottery, the kitchen cabinets are crafted in gentle shades of pea and winter green, finished with a soft matte texture that adds a fresh and modern touch to the space. As one ventures further into the personal quarters, detailed craftsmanship becomes apparent in the Mongolian pattern-adorned doors leading to the bedrooms situated at opposite ends of the dwelling. The guest room, adhering to a philosophy of understated simplicity, accommodates essential furnishings that embody the homeowners’ preference for modest elegance. The master bedroom presents a harmonious blend of personal and cultural narratives, with intricately engraved lacquer cabinets alluding to the homeowners’ rich heritage and familial connections.
