Eocene is a minimalist fossil and sand-cast aluminum side table created by Los Angeles-based design studio Epoche Studio. Founded by Andi Li and Fengji Li in 2025, Epoche Studio explores the relationship between time, material, and memory through collectible furniture and objects. Working with natural materials including wood, stone, and fossil, the studio creates pieces that balance geological history with contemporary craftsmanship, producing each collection in small series or made-to-order.

Part of the studio’s Eocene Collection, the side table incorporates a 50-million-year-old Green River fossil preserved within a sculptural sand-cast aluminum form. The raw, stone-like finish and faceted geometry reference excavated rock, while the tabletop celebrates the remarkable detail of the fossil itself, bridging natural history with contemporary design.

Viewed from different angles, the base reveals two sculpted fish suspended between its stone-like legs, echoing the fossil embedded above. The result is a functional object that sits somewhere between furniture and artifact, exploring how ancient materials can find new life within contemporary forms.
