Sushi Mutsuka is minimal sushi restaurant located in Fukouka, Japan, designed by CASE-REAL. The project is a sushi restaurant located in a quiet residential area. Needless to point out the importance of the counter in sushi restaurants, the designers aimed to create a simple and neutral atmosphere surrounding the counter to stage the chef and his dishes. A solid panel of ginkgo was used for the counter, and the hand-crafted traces have been intentionally left on the original terrazzo tiles made from crushed black slate and polished to give a tone of accent to the entire interior feeling. The same type of tiles made with red-slate were used for the background of the table space.
