Casas Jano is a minimalist home located in Girona, Spain, designed by Jaime Prous Architects. In this nascent neighborhood, where streets await completion, a pair of residences stands as harbingers of an eclectic architectural tapestry yet to unfold. These twin dwellings, positioned in opposition yet conjoined at their rear, evoke the image of Janus, the ancient deity of duality. Together, they form a cruciform, two-tiered edifice, encapsulated within a square that delineates both the structure and its surrounding open spaces. The design philosophy champions material authenticity, with exposed concrete and brick façades serving as the primary visual elements.
A restrained chromatic palette allows the homes to meld seamlessly with their surroundings. Windows are thoughtfully arranged, creating ever-shifting façades that offer myriad visual interpretations depending on the observer’s vantage point. Within, the interior layout fosters a sense of fluidity, with diagonal sightlines traversing exterior spaces and a cross-shaped design that maximizes corner areas. The upper level boasts capacious, egalitarian rooms adaptable to diverse functions. The geometry anticipates future pergolas, enhancing the versatility of outdoor areas while preserving the overarching minimalist aesthetic.
