House in Hikone is a minimal residence located in Shiga, Japan, designed by Kumi_ARCH. A quiet atmosphere was sought after for the site that faced the shrine along the southeast of the Hikone castle, and touched the prefectural road and the city road. The building is characterized by a series of alternating internal courtyards that expanded the sense of depth along the site, as well as created a sense of quiet and privacy. The sloping rooftops are reflected internally as double-height wooden ceilings.
