Text is a minimalist residence located in Tokyo, Japan, designed by Matsushima Junpei Architects. The project is the renovation of a space built in the 1940’s. The architects wanted to maintain the original elements of the interior, and juxtapose them against new and contemporary materials. By stripping away some of the existing finish that was pealing off from the concrete, the designers were able to expand the space by roughly 15 percent. Instead of using partitions or walls, the bedroom space is separated through a stark discoloration in the walls and flooring.
