Bark Back is one of a series of objects produced by an on-going investigation into material culture by Des Moines-based designer Levi Robb. The work employs traditional furniture manufacturing techniques to apply kinetic posture to an otherwise static object. The entirety of the oak surface is hand carved with a flintknapping pattern that elevates the tactility of the piece and reapplies a bark-like texture stripped from the material during the milling process. Building off the simplicity and longevity of furniture as a basic domestic object, the piece explores the formal posture and evolution of the table.
