Bau is a minimal modular seating series designed by Stockholm-based office Note (design studio) for Lammhults. Lammhults, a renowned Swedish furniture brand, unveils Bau—a strikingly innovative and modern modular seating collection designed by Note, a prominent Stockholm-based design studio. With its distinctive, anti-ordinary aesthetic, Bau transcends traditional seating concepts and injects vitality into any interior space, be it a residential or office setting. This daring, avant-garde series features a coupling table with sharp geometric lines, providing an intriguing counterbalance to the sofa’s laid-back demeanor.

Eschewing the rigidity of conventional modular systems, Bau exhibits a softer, lower, and more eccentric design that embodies the essence of Lammhults’ signature style—a harmonious blend of exuberant pop aesthetics and the functional elegance of Scandinavian modernism. Designer Malin Engvall from Note offers insight into the creative vision behind Bau, explaining, “Our aim was to create a piece of furniture with a lot of character that makes people happy and creative.” This sentiment echoes the ethos of the Bau collection, which prioritizes innovative design elements while maintaining a minimalist approach. Kristoffer Fagerström, another key member of Note’s design team, highlights the importance of creating furniture that withstands the test of time, both in terms of durability and aesthetic appeal.

“We design furniture for the second-hand market,” he says, “meaning that it’s not enough for the materials to be durable. The aesthetics have to be as well. A furniture piece must have such a strong identity and personality that it continues to have meaning for future generations.” With Bau, Lammhults and Note have successfully reimagined the possibilities of minimalist design, crafting an extraordinary seating collection that defies convention while remaining rooted in the enduring principles of Scandinavian modernism.
