Canti is a minimal chair designed by Berlin and Milan-based studio Lotto, which consists of Mirko Ihrig and Casey Lewis. The studio explores creative avenues ranging from industrial design to interiors and custom furniture. With a focus on recontextualizing objects that would otherwise be ignored within their context, their reinterpretation of objects transpose them from their nonnative contexts. As such, Canti’s design originated from the idea of constructing a chair from wood when seen as an industrialized material. Canti highlights these qualities with a cantilevered construction, only using planks of solid wood. To add comfort to the bare structure, only the necessary is carved out to create subtle curvature.
