CB01 Bench is a minimalist bench created by Rotterdam-based designer Johan Viladrich. The CB01 bench is a sculptural composition made of four brushed copper plates, assembled together with tempered steel bolts. This work is part of a series exploring the forms and archetypes generated by industrially produced elements. The design of the object – rather than being based on classical human measurements – originates from the norms of the material itself. Each of the four plates is cut from standardised flat copper bars and when assembled together they create a functional structure that resembles the primary form of a bench. This different perspective has the purpose to generate a new typology of object, functional but at the very edge of inadequacy, in which proportions and connections are being given a central role.
