Gyeol Chair is a minimalist chair created by South Korea-based designer Jungmo Yang. Gyeol means a texture in Korean. Gyeol chair is designed with the natural texture of birch plywood. Birch plywood with the bright and natural texture is a popular material for furniture and DIY in South Korea, so I design this chair using the birch plywood for the harmony with the atmosphere of South Korean homes. Gyeol chair is made from the thinnest birch plywood and the beechwood frame. Thin plywood is bent naturally, which makes the comfortable curve both visually and physically. I apply it to the seat and backrest of this chair. Making the chair with naturally bent thin plywood simplifies the manufacturing process and requires know-how of the manufacturer.
