Hakone is a minimalist table and bench created by London-based designers Barber & Osgerby for Galerie kreo. Jay Osgerby and Edward Barber were approached by Galerie kreo, London, to design a Limited Edition table. The pair took inspiration from the simple and beautiful forms found in Japanese carpentry that they had witnessed on their travels. The resulting table is made from solid natural oak, is generously proportioned and deliberately invites tactile exploration. The simple form consisting of three curved oak parts is also highly functional. The name ‘Hakone’, also the name of a mountainous town in Japan, pays homage to the Japanese inspiration for the piece. The bench is a companion to the Hakone Table launched at Design Miami Basel, 2016 and on show at Galerie kreo Paris for the exhibition “à table” until July 2017.
