Intersect – Column 250 is a minimalist structure created by Ghent-based designer Bram Vanderbeke. The architectural column is distinguished not by its singular form but by the combination of multiple intersecting surfaces. The artistry behind this piece involves an intricate process of welding, a method that binds these surfaces together. What follows is a dual-phase sanding process, employing both mechanical and manual techniques. A finish that’s unpretentiously raw, yet sophisticated in its appeal. One of the standout characteristics of this column is its ability to interact with light. Through clever design choices, the object showcases an intriguing play on reflection. However, it doesn’t merely stop at that. The column, in its spaciousness, contrasts the ideals of heft with the unexpected elements of transparency.
