Materiae is a minimal collection of handcrafted lamps designed by Brazil-based designer Dimitrih Correa. The collection is a tribute to the studio’s main raw material: hardwood. The word itself has the same etymology in Portugese, translated as madeira. The studio reworks the hardwood in unconventional ways. By reusing them, the wood reveals a beauty that unskilled or inexperienced eyes would overlook. The core of the work is situated around searching and collecting old hardwood beams, flooring structures, and other wood-based construction materials that were largely used in the past. The rediscovery continues once the raw materials arrive at the studio, where a full transformation takes place.
