Newport is a minimalist design created by Belgium-based designer Alain Monnens for Durlet. The client wanted a sofa with a light, floating form and horizontal lines without sacrificing comfort. The airy aesthetic was achieved by creating the frame from plastic in order to remain thin. This not only allowed the couch to appear to float above the ground, but also contributed a certain dynamism with its oblique lines and horizontal aspects.
