Orion Bar Cabinet is a minimalist drinks cabinet created by Riga-based studio KANTTARI, developed in collaboration with glass artist Artis Nimanis. The cocktail cabinet has always been a furniture type built on suspense. From the lacquered bar cabinets of the Art Deco era, which folded mirror, chrome, and exotic veneer into a single theatrical gesture, to the mid-century dry bar tucked into a living-room credenza, the form depends on the moment of opening, when a closed volume gives way to a private world of ritual. ORION inherits this lineage but strips its exterior of ornament entirely, betting that restraint on the outside makes the interior reveal land harder.
From the outside, the cabinet reads as a single mass of brushed aluminium in a cool silver tone, its surfaces handled with the reticence of a Minimalist sculpture. The reference point is less furniture than the aluminium boxes of Donald Judd, where a material’s faint directional grain and soft reflectivity do the work that carving or inlay once did. KANTTARI lets the metal stay quiet, allowing light to slide across the brushed surface rather than catch on detail. The only interruption is the handle, a hand-formed piece of art glass by Nimanis whose titanium-infused structure gives it a mineral depth closer to a collected object than a piece of hardware. It becomes the cabinet’s single declarative note, the point where the eye is invited before the doors ever move.
Opening reverses the logic completely. Behind the monolithic façade sits an illuminated interior lined in marble, backlit to produce a warm atmospheric glow that turns storage into stagecraft. This is the casket tradition, the centuries-old idea of a plain shell concealing a jeweled interior, updated for the contemporary collector. Eight precision-fitted drawers are lined in genuine ostrich leather, its pebbled grain registering as texture against the cool stone and metal. Integrated holders carry glassware on both doors, a dedicated mixology drawer organizes the tools of the ritual, and two built-in cooler drawers hold white wine and champagne at temperature.
