Pier Collection is a minimalist furniture collection created by Paris-based designer Leonard Kadid for Resident. Pier is a new collection of chairs and stools designed by Paris based designer Léonard Kadid for the New Zealand furniture company Resident. Entirely made of solid oak, the essential presence of the Pier items aims to make them timeless pieces of furniture that would fit into any kind of architecture. Piers straight cylindrical elements guide the entire geometry of the collection.
Their assembly is done using only tenon and mortise joints allowing the wood fibres to run continuously throughout ensuring a strong and durable connection. Thanks to Residents technical innovation and manufacturing expertise, the solid oak seat and backrest are precisely carved using a CNC milling machine to offer a comfortable sitting position. Sculptural, the Pier chairs and the Pier stools are easily stackable to fit any commercial or domestic use. Léonard Kadid is a French architect and product designer based in Paris.
From object to architecture, the work of his studio focuses on structural experimentation and formal simplification to explore the intrinsic characteristics of matter. After studying at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland and the École d’Architecture de la Ville et des Territoires in Paris, Léonard Kadid has collaborated with renowned international offices such as Herzog & de Meuron and Caesar Zumthor in Basel, Switzerland.
