PIVÅ is a minimal table created by Stockholm-based studio Kauppi & Kauppi for Karl Andersson & Söner. PIVÅ is an extensive family of sturdy pedestal tables where the design of the notable solid wooden base accentuates the natural shades, enhances the different grains and the growth rings of the heartwood – giving each table a truly unique pattern. “Our table is inspired by the shape of majestic leafy trees and the transition where the trunk broadens and meets the ground, spreading its roots. The shape of the wood base may appear simple and straightforward at first, but it is in fact a complex construction that is specially designed to provide long-lasting stability and durability”, explains the designer duo Kauppi & Kauppi. The collection includes several types of tables for all sorts of settings and contexts. The largest tables are big enough to serve as meeting or dining tables. The medium-sized tables are wellsuited for use in cafés or in lounges.
The smallest tables can be used as side tables or as imposing pedestals for plants and favorite objects on display. “The aim has been to use the most out of a solid wooden plank, so that as little as possible goes to waste when producing the PIVÅ tables. A design that we believe expresses the great craftsmanship, tradition and values found at furniture maker Karl Andersson & Söner, established in 1898”, Nina Kauppi says. The PIVÅ table is produced by using CNC, combined with the skilled hands of furniture makers. The raw wood is initially sawn into numerous pieces. The parts are then shuffled and mixed, before being puzzled together layer upon layer and finally milled to achieve the final shape of the base. The tables are supplied unassembled and just a few hand tools are needed for mounting or disassembling after many years of continuous use.
