Resourcer Galva Elipse is a minimalist coffee table created by Belgium-based designer Thomas Serruys. Since founding his atelier in 2016, he has moved from an initial location in Ostend’s port to Zaventem Ateliers, and now operates out of a repurposed cotton spinnery in Bruges. Serruys’s design approach emphasizes straightforward simplicity and traditional craftsmanship, yet incorporates a degree of experimentation. He selects shapes and proportions based on intuitive decisions, and chooses materials that will age gracefully and withstand prolonged use. His designs are inspired by everyday life, resulting in products that not only fulfill practical requirements but are also visually appealing and functional. Through a dedicated self-study of 20th-century design, Serruys draws immense inspiration from the era’s groundbreaking trends. This exploration allows him to understand the evolution of design materials, forms, and philosophies, enabling him to blend historical influences with modern aesthetics.
