Sample Chair is a minimal limited edition chair created by Copenhagen-based designer Jonas Trampedach. The Sample Chair series reveals Trampedach’s fascination with what he calls “clear legible principles” – the idea that design should communicate its own logic through form and making. Established in 2010 after his graduation from the Royal College of Art, his Copenhagen studio has consistently explored this territory where industrial efficiency meets artisanal sensitivity.

The aluminum version speaks the language of modern manufacturing, yet pressed into this domestic context, the chair carries unexpected warmth – its curves softened by the very process that shaped them. The oak variant, meanwhile, transforms plywood from a utilitarian material into something approaching furniture poetry. The grain patterns, interrupted and redirected by the forming process, create topographies that invite touch and contemplation.

This material dialogue reflects broader currents in contemporary Scandinavian design, where the region’s historic craft traditions increasingly intersect with global industrial processes. Trampedach’s approach echoes the work of mid-century pioneers like Arne Jacobsen and Verner Panton, who similarly explored how new technologies could serve timeless human needs. Yet where those earlier designers often pursued singular material languages, Trampedach embraces multiplicity – the same chair existing in different material realities.
