Totem is a collection of large scale metal works by Danish artist and furniture designer Jakob Jørgensen. Towering steel tubes are carefully hand pressed with a 100 tons press machine, as well as heated to 1000 degrees celsius— giving the metal tubes qualities of plasticity. A jack lift, similar to those used on vehicles is a part of the process in creating the sculptural elements found in one of the pieces. Jørgensen’s fascination with exploring the possibilities of new expressions with thoroughly tested materials and in large scale provides the objects with great physical impact, while possessing ease as they fit naturally into everyday life as functional objects.
