Viewpoint is a minimalist furniture collection created by Seoul-based designer Jeonghwa Seo. In Seo’s latest endeavor, a novel approach was embraced by leveraging the dynamic perspective shifts that occurred when users interacted with and rearranged objects within a space. This method sought to bridge the gap between the expressive design movements that followed postmodernism—characterized by a deep-rooted connection to the designer’s personal emotions—and a more user-centric design philosophy. The aim was to transform design into a conduit for the user’s emotions, making it a responsive vessel that captured and reflected the individual’s subjective feelings. Central to this approach was the redefinition of the designer’s role from creator to inquisitor. By posing targeted questions, the designer encouraged users to engage in a dialogue about the utility and significance of objects within their personal spaces. This process was not merely about aesthetic appeal or functional utility; it was about imbuing objects with a deeper personal meaning and aligning them with the user’s unique life context.
