Akhil House is a minimal residence located in Mumbai, India, designed by studio das. The apartment is intelligently divided into an entertainment area and a restful, relaxing space. The living area, in turn, consists of two interconnected units, seamlessly connected by sliding doors. This thoughtful layout maximizes both privacy and openness. The high sloping ceilings, adorned with large windows, flood the interior with abundant natural light throughout the day. By night, they offer a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of illuminated Bombay. At the heart of the living space lies an open-plan living room, designed with a generously sized island dining counter. This counter not only serves as a culinary hub but also acts as a social focal point, seamlessly linking to a balcony. Here, friends can gather for meaningful conversations about life, love, travel, and, most importantly, food—the host’s own culinary creations.
To achieve a minimalist aesthetic that exudes warmth and coziness, the designers opted for a judicious selection of natural materials. Wood and travertine take center stage, providing a tactile sense of tranquility. Dark wood loose furniture is thoughtfully placed to introduce a harmonious contrast to the space. This juxtaposition of materials and tones is a testament to the design team’s meticulous attention to detail. Beyond aesthetics, the apartment has been equipped and styled to cater to all five senses. This thoughtful consideration enhances the overall sensory experience, creating a sanctuary of peace and serenity. It’s a soothing retreat where the owner can unwind and find solace amid the bustling chaos of Bombay.
